President-Elect Donald Trump Selects NFL Owner Woody Johnson as Ambassador to United Kingdom

On Wednesday night, President-elect Donald J. Trump made his final cabinet nomination official, selecting former Georgia Governor Sonny Purdue to lead the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Now that the difficult process of filling his cabinet – or at least making all the nominations – is complete, Mr. Trump has been diligently filling other members of administration, and there are now reports that he will appoint New York Jets owner Woody Johnson as the U.S. Ambassador to the United Kingdom.

From NBC New York:

Trump hinted at the appointment at a luncheon in Washington when he introduced a guest as “sitting next to the ambassador Woody Johnson, going to Saint James.”

Trump said, “Congratulations, Woody.”

The appointment has not been formally announced. The billionaire businessman and philanthropist from the Johnson & Johnson family has known Trump for years.

Johnson originally backed Trump rival Jeb Bush in the GOP primary.

Woody Johnson has been a longtime Republican donor, and is the grandson of the founder of Johnson & Johnson. After his candidate, Jeb Bush, dropped out of the 2016 race he formally endorsed Donald Trump for president.

From NJ.com:

Johnson served as vice chairman of Trump’s victory committee. Johnson also hosted high-dollar fundraisers for Trump’s campaign. Plus, Johnson is on Trump’s inaugural committee.

The United Kingdom is one of America’s strongest allies, so it is important that President-elect Trump chose someone that he believes can represent our country on the world stage and repair any damage done by 8 years of Barack Obama.
