President-Elect Trump Names David Shulkin as V.A. Secretary!

During a high-profile press conference on Wednesday, President-elect Donald J. Trump announced yet another much-anticipated cabinet pick, the Secretary of the Department of Veterans Affairs.

After much deliberation, Trump named current VA undersecretary for health David Shulkin as his pick to lead the embattled VA, which has been embroiled in scandal and disarray in recent years.

Trump has made taking care of our veterans and fixing the VA a centerpiece of his campaign for the presidency after 8 years of despicable failure by Barack Obama.

Shulkin was previously a big-time hospital administrator for Beth Israel Medical Center and the Morristown Medical Center.

From CNN:

He was also the chief medical officer of the University of Pennsylvania Health System.  The announcement means Trump has chosen nominees for 20 of his 21 Cabinet posts — with the position of secretary of agriculture left to fill. Veterans’ care advocates had said they’d seen clear signs of progress and had lobbied Trump to keep current VA Secretary Robert McDonald in the post.

Throughout the 2016 presidential campaign, President-elect Trump was highly critical of the VA and its lackluster treatment of America’s veterans. He pledged that as president he would take care of each and every veteran in this country and deliver them the medical care they truly deserve.

Given that Shulkin is a VA insider, he is fully aware of the problems associated with the agency, and hopefully he will be able to fix the troubled agency after so many years of unacceptable failure.

Do you think Shulkin is the right man to fix the VA? Do you think Trump made the right pick, or would an outsider have been better? Share your thoughts below!
