Is a smooth transition ahead of us? The media certainly doesn’t want us to think there is. The New York Times ran a story two days ago headlined “Firings and Discord Put Trump Transition Team in a State of Disarray,” as if we should expect Trump to know who is going to be getting which cabinet position a week after winning the Presidency.
Many of those firings were firing of lobbyists by the way – and the Times criticized Trump for having lobbyists on his transition team days prior.
And it’s not just the media that wants there to be turbulence on Trump’s ride to the White House.
While President-elect Donald Trump will be officially sworn in as president on January 20, 2017, it will likely be much later than that before he can get settled into the Oval Office of the White House.
According to the U.K. Daily Mail, it appears the Oval Office is set to undergo some major renovations and upgrades that could leave it un-useable for upwards of a year.
With the traditional working office of the president being taken out of commission, Trump will most likely have to stage his administration out of an office in the Eisenhower Executive Office Building across the street, coincidentally the same office used by President Richard Nixon, who used the Oval Office only for ceremonial purposes.
“My understanding is that for the first year of his time in office, President Trump will not have the Oval Office,” stated former Bush White House adviser Karl Rove to Fox News on Wednesday.
Now, are we really supposed to believe that Obama would do something as petty as put off these renovations until after he’s out of office? Of course.
“President Obama could have told the Secret Service, ‘I know you want to modernize the Oval Office with security enhancements – literally strip it down to the bare walls and build it back up so we’ve got bullet-proof glass and so forth and so on, security arrangements in it, in my last year in office,’” Rove surmised.
“But instead he said, ‘Why don’t you do that (with) whoever comes next’ so the president of the United States, President Trump, my understanding is, will spend most of his first year using Richard Nixon’s old office in the Old Executive Office Building across Executive Drive and up the Navy Steps,” Rove added.
Honestly, the fact that it’ll take a year to renovate the Oval Office makes a greater point about the inefficiency of our government than most conservatives could hope to…
