This Selfless Act By Military Veterans Should be Shared By All!

veteran suicide walk

Even as a veteran, this is the first time I’ve heard of this. I am so much into politics these days and trying to coordinate things, I am ashamed to have missed this, but I am glad my brothers and sisters are doing the right thing.

It seems these veterans Kyle Retzlaff, Devin Bertrand, and Dave Bystry walked 22 miles to raise awareness about veteran suicide. Did you know there are studies that show 22 veterans on a daily basis take their lives?

This selfless act is both amazing and sad at the same time. I am glad there are people out there trying to raise awareness. On the other hand, I am very sad and a little angry as to why there is not more help for our veterans. These men and woman gave up so much for this country.

Kyle, Devin, and Dave are awesome veterans and I salute them.

From KWQC:

Veterans, Kyle Retzlaff, Devin Bertrand and Dave Bystry walked 22 miles through the Quad Cities Sunday, all to show support and bring awareness to veteran suicide.

Retzlaff says he got the idea for the walk from a friend and brought it to the Quad Cities.

He says studies show 22 veterans take their own lives every day because they are not getting the help they need.

“You get in that hole and it’s very dark and you keep digging, you keep digging, it gets darker and darker and darker, and it’s like how do I get out of this?” Retzlaff said.

The goal of the three on Sunday, was to bring light to that dark situation.

“It’s saddening I guess, it’s kind of hard to talk about,” Bertrand said.

They started on foot in Milan, and marched on for their cause through the heat, wind and rain.

A GoFundMe page is set up to raise money for the Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association to go to veterans in need.

You can find more information about helping veterans in need on the Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association Website, or on Jason’s Box’s Website.

I might be biased, but I am sorry to say that soldiers, veterans, police officers, paramedics, and firefighters should receive better health care, more money, and be all around treated with more respect. If the government stopped playing with our lives, things would be so much better.

It’s so important to show our Nation’s Heros respect, honor, and love. Take a moment out of your day to shake a veterans’ hand, say thank you, or buy them a meal. Show them they are important and not forgotten.

What do you think about those suicide numbers? Did you know it was that high? After learning this what can you do to help raise awareness to this problem? Share your suggestions below, and it could help others.
