If chivalry isn’t dead yet, the Marine Corps is about to drop an A-bomb on it. U.S. Marines have been ordered to undergo gender sensitivity training and cultural reeducation so they will accept adding women in combat roles.
Marines across the Corps will be challenged on their unconscious prejudices and presuppositions as women get the opportunity to become grunts for the first time.
The Marine Corps is rolling out mandatory training for all Marines before the first future female rifleman hits boot camp, aiming to set conditions for a smooth transition and head off cultural resistance.
Mobile training teams will be dispatched to installations across the Corps throughout May and June to offer a two-day seminar to majors and lieutenant colonels, Col. Anne Weinberg, deputy director of the Marine Corps Force Innovation Office, told reporters Thursday. Those officers will then train the Marines under them.
Topics include unconscious bias, which focuses on how people prejudge others based on factors such as race and gender, and principles of institutional change. The seminar will also walk officers through the elements of the Corps’ plan for opening ground combat jobs to women and include vignettes featuring challenges units might encounter.
Unfortunately, all the “unconscious bias” training in the world won’t be enough to erase biology’s bias.
The Marines released a major study last year on women in combat. According to Marine Corps Force Integration Research, “the average man in the experimental integrated unit weighed 178 pounds with 20 percent body fat, while the average woman weighed 142 pounds with 24 percent body fat.” Meanwhile, “the top 25th percentile of women overlapped with the bottom 25th percentile of men when it came to anaerobic power, a measure of strength.”
Because of these very real physical differences, there are very real combat differences. Women perform worse than men, to the detriment of all involved.
According to the research, female service members were injured twice as often as their male counterparts, demonstrated less accuracy with infantry weapons, were slower than men when completing tactical movements, and did not perform as well when removing injured troops from the battlefield.
Furthermore, male Marines who had no infantry training were more accurate in their use of firearms than female troops who had received such training.
But if biology can’t be fixed, maybe the mind can be tricked. And that is exactly what they are trying to do with these reeducation trainings. War is Peace. Freedom is Slavery. Ignorance is Strength. Woman is Man.
Marines themselves are overwhelmingly opposed to integrating combat units, according to a 2012 survey the Department of Defense attempted to bury. In fact, the Military.com article cited that survey as evidence for “the need for training on cultural and institutional resistance as female Marines go infantry.” Yes, they need to retrain the men on how NOT to be men. How to resist every evolutionary impulse or chivalrous fiber of their being to protect and come to the rescue of a fit, fertile woman who is in danger, struggling, or hurt.
This is just more of that social engineering that the left loves. Only this time they’re playing with our nation’s security and the lives of our brave troops.
The only purpose for the inclusion of women in combat is some vague notion of fairness and equality. (Here are some great responses to arguments used by those who support allowing women in combat.) Think about it: No one has ever made the claim that women are better warriors than men or will improve combat effectiveness. All they can do is point to a few studies that say women aren’t significantly worse than men in some areas. Big whoop. So the results will be somewhere between an unmitigated disaster and no major change – Hey, here’s an idea: How about we only make radical changes to our military that will IMPROVE our capabilities! Not to score political points or for “social justice.”
Last year, Marine Sgt. Maj. Justin LeHew gave a prescient warning about forcing women in combat:
Listen up folks. Your senior leadership of this country does not want to see America overwhelmingly succeed on the battlefield, it wants to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to [pursue] whatever they want regardless of the outcome on national security. …
There is no trophy for second place. You perform or die. Make no mistake. In this realm, you want your fastest, most fit, most physical and most lethal person you can possibly put on the battlefield to overwhelm the enemy’s ability to counter what you are throwing at them and in every test case, that person has turned out to be a man. There is nothing gender biased about this, it is what it is.
You will never see a female Quarterback in the NFL, there will never be a female center on any NHL team and you will never see a female batting in the number 4 spot for the New York Yankees. It is what it is. … (Read the rest here)
