Ohio Governor John Kasich has been playing “spoiler” for those who want to see Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) defeat conservative businessman Donald J. Trump. While he’s still in the race, it’s mathematically challenging – perhaps impossible – for Cruz to remain competitive before the RNC convention in Cleveland, Ohio.
On the recent episode of NBC’s Meet the Press, the host Chuck Todd asked Kasich why he is campaigning in Utah, even though Ted Cruz has such a strong showing there. Without Kasich, Trump would likely win no delegates from Utah. This move would help Kasich too, as it would increase the likelihood of a contested convention.
That’s when Kasich dropped a bombshell that no one expected! Kasich announced he’s staying in and Republicans should thank him for remaining in the Presidential race!
“I’m going to compete across the company and tell people who I am and let the chips fall where they may,” Kasich replied. “Maybe Ted ought to get out because he can’t win in the fall.” Addressing Republicans calling on him to get out of the race, Kasich said, “They should be thanking me for staying in, because if Trump had won Ohio, it’d be over!”

It’s unclear if Kasich really believes this, or if he’s still attempting to be Trump’s VP running mate.
