This radical group of Muslims is not pleased with the Mayor of Irving, Texas after she put the end to America’s first “Sharia Court.” Mayor Beth Van Duyne has accused mosque leaders of creating separate laws for Muslims, which is why the city voted to stop these supposedly “voluntary” tribunals from operating.
In a very close 5-4 vote, the city of Irving ruled to back the Texas state bill banning foreign law from the state. The bill doesn’t mention Sharia or any religion, but it’s a huge defeat for Sharia supporters, as such courts are in violation of the U.S. Constitution.
All four of the “voluntary” court’s lawyers were unlicensed in the state of Texas, a third degree felony. Mayor Beth Van Duyne received several phone calls on the matter. It seems that the Islamic Tribunal not only was unlicensed, but they failed to notify the city of their illegal court being operated in city limits. She promised to get to the bottom of it, and she did.
By their own website’s admission, if U.S. law conflicts with Sharia law, “we follow Sharia law.” It also openly admitted separate rules for men and women in their proceedings, discriminating and humiliating women which is against the U.S. Constitution. The Islamic Tribunal also openly declared that they hope [this] will “set a precedence that will be emulated and duplicated throughout the country.”

“This bill does not reference Shariah, Islam or even religion. It has nothing to do with preventing any tribunal,” Van Duyne told the crowd. “Why anyone would feel this is hatred or bigotry is absolutely beyond me.”
Good for Mayor Van Duyne! The legal system from the Islamic faith is incompatible with civilized Western cultures. To have anyone in America abiding by Sharia law is a dangerous precedent, which is why the city moved swiftly to outlaw the practice. No one is above the law!

Where are my fellow women defending our sister against these radical men who are threatening and intimidating her. To be clear, Biblical/Christian principles ushered in freedom of slavery and equal rights for women. No true American should support the laws and ideas of these factions within our country. The Jewish historian, Amnon Cohen, describes the historical manifestation of justice under Islamic values. Cohen states that the Jewish minorities sought justice from the Islamic courts rather than their own:

Shariah simply means sacred law. The laws of Torah are called Shariah of Moses peace be upon him, and Shariah of Muhammad blessings and peace be upon him is lenient compared to that. For example this Shariah encourages liberation of slaves, allows business in other than prayer timings on Friday, laws of war are also lenient under it which allow full freedom of religion for Jews and Christians, while certain earlier laws commanded all living things to be killed in war or at least all males. That’s why when Jesus peace be upon him returns as a Muslim, he will follow and implement the laws of Quran and Sunnah, rather than Torah.
We need to exterminate Islam from our nation and then the world, as they seek only one thing, to exterminate all who are not like them, or believe in their cult. There ae only two possible outcomes, either they are exterminated, or we are exterminated! No other options are acceptable to them!

Christians have the Covenant while Muslims are using Sharia Law. These Muslims are consenting to a higher moral law than the U.S laws requiring of its citizens. These Sharia Laws have no more affect on Americans than Walmart’s policies have on its customers, because Americans have not consented to practice the religion of Muslims.
What Americans should be concern about is how this law will infringe with their practicing religion of Christianity. What this law is saying to us Christians is that you also can’t settle your own disputes in your own body of believers, (church) which our heavenly Father gives us liberty to practice. One must now convey all disagreements to civil courts who know not what justice is or love or fairness; but only what lines their own pockets with your stored wealth.
Islam is not a religion, is is a cult, more specifically an inhumane death cult, and should not be protected under the Constitution. If Sharia Law is allowed in one city; the next step is to use the 14th amendment to get Sharia Law in the whole country.
The penetration of Sharia Law into our country sends chills up my spine; that said, equally concerning is that, Christians know that the United States is a major player in bringing about New World Order government, and although we like that the mosque is being challenged by a court that professes that U.S. law reigns supreme (not God’s law); aren’t Christians just as subject to the dictates of worldly courts? Does not our Holy Bible say that we should not sue a brother at court, but we should take our case with two or three witnesses to the assembly of the saints? I know for a fact that many mainline denominations, including the Catholic Church have their own system of law, and hearings, and even their own investigators. What, and when the U.S. legal system infringes on our First Amendment Right to hold hearings, or court within our Churches, will we be so willing to bark “Murica” then? Just an honest and fair question, I believe, to help us understand what is going on behind the spiritual scene. These Muslims are perpetuating worldly control over religious systems by exciting them to take action: a means to an end, world domination.

You have wrongly listed India under the countries that apply Sharia law two people. India has a uniform criminal code for all its citizens. I have studied some of the history of Islam and this is what I found: Since the start of Islam it’s founder (660 ad) killed thousands just because they would not convert to Islam. Mohammed celebrated while 800 people were being beheaded. It has always been a religion of violence. Those today (ISIS 2014) are only following the example Mohammed gave them kill those who do not believe. It’s historically established fact the Islam is a religion of violence. From 660 ad until now 1354 years that Muslims have been murdering people (about 2 million). You have to go back to the 1300’s to find anything. During the Crusades the Islamic were slaughtering Jews and Christian that is why they had to go and defend the Jews and Christians. So if defending someone is violent then I guess we should all let the Islamic kill us and not defend ourselves. Self-defense or defense of others is the right thing to do. Yes some of the Crusades got off base from the original intent but killing someone because they refuse to convert has always been the Islamic way. (There are 109 verses in the Koran that tell them to kill those who are not Muslim.) Mohammed when he could not defeat a foe would make a peace deal build up his troops a lot stronger then return and defeat his foe. Is she? Whether she is or sin’t, I don’t know, but let’s rephrase the question. What are we going to say when the courts tell Christians we can no longer hold hearings within our Churches. Many large denominations hold hearings. What if the courts mandate the ordination of individuals that the church leaders feel are unfit to hold office? The Bible tells us we should never sue a brother at court, but that we should take our case with two or three witnesses before the assembly of saints (Matthew 18:15-18). What happens when the court tells us we can’t hold these kinds of hearings, or discriminate in ordination? What then?
The difference between Sharia and Christianity is that no where in the New Testament are its followers told to treat women or anyone else within the church differently(Galatians 3:28). Also, the point of your example(Matthew 18:15-18) does not include judgement of body parts being cut off, death, etc. Christians have the choice to abide by any decision made within a church, leave the church or convert to another religion without consequence from the church. The constitution protects individuals from being coerced out of fear, etc. into something they really don’t want. As an example, even if I agree to let you kill me doesn’t mean that you can legally do so. Sharia is completely incompatible with the US Constitution.

How are these courts different from courts in Texas who deliver unfair and unjust sentencing for minorities? These courts are operating under different laws based on who appears in their court rooms already. When a court clerk says “I’m going to follow my religion and not do my job, despite the law.” That is the same thing. Yet you will rarely here the posters on this thread saying “Hey you theocratic religious zealot, go back to your country of origin!” in response to these “American” law breakers who also want to set up their own country courts based on their own religious preferences.
Kentuky’s law on marriage was just renewed, and as stated before, marriage is defined as 1 man and 1 woman. Gay marriage is NOT A LAW. The supreme court led you down a wrong path, their is no laws for gay marriage in our constitution or bill of rights, but in the bible it is a religeous sin for men to lay with men and women to lay with women, its an abomination of worldly sinners. Religions are the same as any private social organization. They have the right over their members to hold hearings for infractions of the rules established by the private group; and discipline accordingly. So long as the discipline does not conflict with public civil or criminal law.
Religions, no matter how large, have to follow the established public laws wherever their congregations operate. Whenever there is a conflict in the meaning or the punishment, the law of the land, wherein the specific congregation sits, shall prevail.
Additionally, for any town, city, county (parish or district) or state to allow a private court to act upon church law in lieu of established civil or criminal law would be a violation of the “Separation of Church and State Philosophy” that’s currently in practice; it’s a possible precursor for the establishment of a religion for all to follow.
The private law followers could very easily determine that, if one of their members is a party to an action, an involved non-member will be held accountable to their court. Thus, expanding their authority to the general populace whenever the church, or any of it’s members are involved.

Our laws are being broken all across the country. We have judges judging people by the law of ‘their’ various lands. We have communities of people who do not want to integrate into our society. They have their own schools, mosques, stores, training grounds and homes. I applaud this Mayor for doing what is right for Texas. Our constitution says that everyone is created equal. It is true that many of our ancestors fought to make each individual equal in the eyes of the law. But now, we are all equal as individuals.
Sharia has everyone except men as lesser beings. Those who aren’t Muslims are infidels and their book says that infidels should be killed. That’s just a fact. Anyway, imagine a woman who is very unhappy because her husband is beating her all the time. She’s in America now and he is afraid she may tell someone outside of their community and he could possibly get in trouble or she may even seek shelter elsewhere. He tells her they will go to the Tribunal to work it out. He already knows how it will end. They are from the Middle East. They have always lived under Sharia. Her husband would tell her it is their god’s will to go to the tribunal. If it’s their god’s will, she will go believing he is right.
How would those in the tribunal judge this case? Sharia says a man may beat his wife if she doesn’t please him. I suppose they would tell her to try harder to please her husband. Maybe she has done her very best, but he still beats her. He is allowed by their law. So she goes back home with maybe a promise from him that he will be nicer, but she also knows that there is no hope for her to ever be happy this way. That’s one example of what this type of tribunal will do for a woman. It takes away her right to live as a separate, but equal human being in America. There are many other examples, but maybe y’all get the point.
Our rights are God given. They make us free. We are free to believe whatever we choose or not to believe. We are not forced under threat of death under God’s law. I am all for the first amendment and freedom of religion, BUT, … There are laws in this nation that Sharia or any other law cannot overrule.
To hold a “court” to decide “legal” punishment under a set of laws not enacted by a local, state or federal authority cannot be allowed. Sharia law calls for stoning, beheadings, and a litany of archaic punishments that no civilized society in today’s world would tolerate.
If you wish to live in a society that does abide by these tortures and one-sided laws, then move to another nation that will accept them. We as Americans, do not. We intervene when a parent will not, because of religious beliefs, allow a child to have a life saving transfusion or operation. While I consider Islam a Satanic religion, it is hypocritical to attach the Sharia courts as Un-American and a so called violation of the Constitution when the people who control the RNC (Big Business) have done EXACTLY THE SAME THING FOR DECADES.
The courts in question are not handling CRIMINAL cases – they are not executing people or even cutting off hands. They are settling purely CIVIL disputes. In that way they are NO DIFFERENT than the Binding Arbitration Clause that most companies have made part of every contract.
I am sure some will gripe about them handling marriage cases. First of all, I doubt that they handle homosexual marriage cases. I point this out to give an idea why many people do not trust secular courts.
In any event, a woman’s participation is voluntary. Granted, she will no doubt feel pressure from her society to accept the ruling, but legally she always has the right to bring her case in a Texas court if she disagrees with what the Imam says.
Good for the Mayor. Uphold the laws of this country, state, and city. Do not allow others to take away those rights without due process, which is what the Sharia Council is trying to do. The First Amendment does not protect the practice of all religions. For example, religions that practice human sacrifice are illegal for obvious reasons. I think the Mayor and council probably made the right decision, though it is worth discussion and investigation. A few outside observers in any Sharia, Mormon, Catholic, JW, or Evangelical courts or councils or sermons would not be a bad thing.
I’ve seen what their kangaroo courts are like. There is no place for that here in the US. It’s not racists to deny them. When I’ve been to other countries I’ve had to obey their laws. Get over it people. You are not in the Middle East. You are in America.

The true test of this country’s freedoms is whether we permit voluntary practices the majority of us might disagree with. As long as a “Sharia court” is truly voluntary (i.e., there are no attendant Sharia jails with armed guards and the like), then I can’t think of a legal principle that should operate to ban it.
I encourage clients to attend voluntary mediation all the time. An informal mediation setting need not be attended by lawyers. It can also be in front of a neutral who is not a judge and who could very well apply religious principles in his decision-making, if that’s what the parties want.
I’d liken “Sharia courts” to these voluntary mediations. If you don’t agree these situations are analogous, it doesn’t defeat my larger point: in a free country, free men may enter into voluntary arrangements that may offend others. As long as those arrangements don’t HARM others, then we have no standing to complain.

We have similar issues in the UK say I hope you won’t mind a foreigner commenting. I dislike all religions equally but support the right of any one to beleive whatever they like provided it doesn’t interfere with any one else. Islam is not, per se, any worse than any of the rest. Of course evil people use it as an excuse to control others and do evil.
If individuals in the US or UK want to follow the rules of islam – that is sharia – they should be free to do so just as mormons are free to follow the rules of mormon or catholics the rules laid down by the pope – a foreigner or jews the rules of judaism – also foreign.
They should also have access to learned folk who can interpret the religion and arbitrate in cases of conflict. Now I think there should be a number of rules on these arbitration services. Firstly any one setting themselves up as an arbitration service must be licensed. All their advice must be subject to oversight by proper courts. Participation must be entirely voluntary. The licencees must be able to demonstrate that participation was voluntary, because of the particular problems associated with religion and the protection of vulnerable people they would have to demonstrate the protection accorded to women and children involved. It must be in accordance with the local law. Its ‘advice’ must be published in English (and perhaps Spanish) and must clearly demonstrate how it complies with local laws. Any breaches of these rules should be treated as a perversion of justice result in long custodial sentences for the licencees and other involved in perversion.
That said I tend to agree with an earlier poster. The US and the UK are free countries. People should be free to follow their consciences within then law but if they don’t like our society and our way of life then they should consider exercising their freedom to leave and go somewhere more to their liking.

Are Catholics who seek an ecclesiastical tribunal in cases such as annulments to be deported as well? How about any religious person who consults with their pastor? Why in the world would anyone object to individuals freely practicing their religion as guaranteed by the US Constitution? How could any rational person believe that violating the Constitution and prohibiting religious people from interacting is good for America?
One thing’s for sure, the GLBT lobby would welcome any law that prohibits religious folks from engaging in voluntary interactions. Ask your pastor about that before it becomes illegal to do so.
