Imagine a job posting by a prominent Republican – we’ll say Donald Trump for this exercise – looking for interns of a certain persuasion. Let’s say that job posting went ahead and stated that ‘white, straight men without disabilities are strongly encouraged to apply.’
What would the media reaction be?
Muslim Democrat Congressman Keith Ellison is advertising for new interns, and the posting adds “People of color, LGBTQ individuals, women, and people with disabilities are strongly encouraged to apply.”
As the Daily Caller reports, Ellison is looking for “anyone who isn’t a straight, white able-bodied male to send in an application.”
But it’s not even that so much which is the problem. Ellison’s new internship posting actively removed a key phrase seen on so many job applications – “We do not discriminate based on race, gender, religion, sexual orientation, or disability.”
Via the Daily Caller:
The note specifically requesting interns that aren’t straight, white able-bodied men appears to have been added somewhat recently.
A cached version of the internships page from September contains no such language. The September version also states: “We do not discriminate based on race, gender, religion, sexual orientation, or disability.”
That language has since been removed — the advertisement now contains no guarantees of non-discrimination. Ellison’s office did not immediately return a request for comment.
Here is an image of the wording that was removed from Ellison’s internship announcement:
Once again we have to ask – Can you imagine if Donald Trump (or Paul Ryan for that matter) was looking for interns and actually removed a phrase proclaiming ‘he does not discriminate?’ It’d be in the media news cycle for the next three weeks!
Ellison’s blatant racism is pretty much becoming the norm in today’s landscape.
