Top Republican Reveals Congress Still Investigating Hillary Clinton

After Hillary Clinton’s crushing defeat to President-elect Donald J. Trump last month, one would think that the Democrat’s life couldn’t get much worse.

Well, House Oversight Committee Chairman Jason Chaffetz just gave Clinton some horrible news, revealing that her actions as Secretary of State have raised so many red flags that Congress can’t stop investigating her.

During an interview with Fox News’ Martha MacCallum, Chaffetz stressed that Congress “can’t just simply let this go.” The Republican noted that while Obama or Trump certainly could pardon Mrs. Clinton, he has a “duty and an obligation to actually fix the problems that were made with Hillary Clinton.”

While Chaffetz has stressed the importance of proper Congressional oversight, President-elect Trump has signaled that his administration would not make investigating Clinton a top White House priority, telling the New York Times that “It’s just not something that I feel strongly about.”

Despite the President-elect’s seemingly changing opinion on whether or not Hillary Clinton should be punished for over her private email server, Chaffetz made it clear that a “political election does not extinguish the need for transparency, truth, and justice. We want to get to the truth.”

Furthermore, the Republican congressman explained that Congress still does not have all the information available to properly conclude that its investigations into Clinton’s email server should end:

There are tens of thousands of documents the State Department still has not turned over to the United States Congress that should be available. There’s issues relating to the Department of Justice. I still think that the federal government needs to provide to Congress the records which we sought.

It is important to note that while President-elect Trump has reiterated that his administration would not spearhead any investigations into Mrs. Clinton but did not explicitly say he opposes Congress investigating the Democrat. This distinction is important as it may shed some light into why Chaffetz has refused to close the door on the Clinton investigation.
