A Democrat strategist offered one of the most amazing efforts at verbal gymnastics we’ve ever seen, claiming Hillary Clinton never lied about sending or receiving classified emails on her private server.
Here’s Clinton in February – “I never sent or received any classified material.”
Here’s Clinton AFTER her interview with the FBI – “I never received nor sent any material that was marked classified.”
The FBI reported however – 110 emails in 52 email chains contained some form of classified information at the time they were sent, and Clinton herself was on seven of those chains. They were marked classified at the time.
Most reasonable Americans can look at those statements and clearly see Hillary lied to them.
Not Democrat strategist Basil Smikle, who said she didn’t lie per se, but that she was just as surprised as the rest of us that her words didn’t end up being truthful.
No really, he said that.

Democratic strategist Basil Smikle argued that Hillary Clinton had not lied necessarily — but that she was likely as “surprised” as anyone by the revelations that her previous claims about her emails had been untrue.

“So, was she lying?” Berman asked.
“No, I think she would be surprised — was surprised that that statement — as was the State Department. The State Department said the same thing: that there was nothing marked classified that was sent in these emails,” Smikle said. “So I think it’s a surprise to a lot of people –”
“But they were wrong,” Berman interjected.
“Well, it’s a surprise to a lot of people,” Smikle said before reiterating Comey’s claim that nothing had met the standard for criminal activity.
First of all, Hillary lying was a surprise to nobody. She’s a perpetual liar.
Second, telling flat-out falsehoods and then getting caught does not allow you to sit back and claim ‘oh wow, didn’t realize what I was saying earlier was wrong.’
Third, if she was genuinely surprised by the fact that she was wrong, she’d surely come forward today, own it, and apologize to the American people, correct?
Don’t hold your breath on that one.
