Dr. Ben Carson: It’s Time to Move in a Different Direction

Ben Carson, one of several Republicans who have expressed an interest in running for President in 2016, kicked off this year’s Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), with a relentless attack on big government liberals who seek to ‘redistribute and control’ every facet of American life.

Carson told the crowd that it’s time to move away from big government, explaining that while some individuals will certainly need a safety net in difficult times, government today has too many programs which facilitate “dependency” for too many.

To overwhelming applause, Carson stated that “I’m not interested in getting rid of a safety net, I’m interested in getting rid of dependency.”

“It’s not compassion to pat them on the head and say ‘there, there, I’m going to take care of all your needs, your healthcare, your food,'” he explained.  ”

“That’s the opposite of compassion.”

Carson went on to call for school choice, reducing the national debt and the scope of government, and an end to Obamacare.

These things he conveyed, would help all Americans “climb out of dependency and realize the American Dream.”

Carson then went on to explain a simple tactic that has led to so many successes for the Democrat party – simply re-labeling the platforms of your opposition.

He marveled at the left’s “relabeling” of things.

“If you’re pro-life, you’re ‘anti-woman.’ If you’re pro-traditional family, you’re a ‘homophobe.’ If you’re white, and you oppose a progressive black person, you’re ‘racist.’ If you’re black and you oppose a progressive agenda, you’re ‘crazy.’ And if you’re black and you’re pro-life and you’re pro-traditional family, they don’t even know what to call you. You end up on some kind of watch list for extremists!” he said.

Carson was making a clear reference to the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) labeling him as an “extremist.”  Something the group had to eventually apologize for.

He then turned to the presumptive Democrat nominee for President – Hillary Clinton.

“I’m not ready for Hillary,” Carson declared, playing off a Clinton campaign slogan.

“I’m ready for a country that puts our Constitution on the top shelf. And for those that have any doubt, that includes the Second Amendment. I’m for a country where we take the restraints off the most dynamic economy the world has ever known.”

We know our readers aren’t ready for Hillary, but are you ready for President Ben Carson?
