Oh-oh, here he comes. Watch out libs, he’ll chew you up.
In what can only be described as an epic rant, Daryl Hall, singer of Hall & Oates fame, laid a beatdown on the liberal nutjobs at Salon for questioning him on “cultural appropriation” and the idea that “white people should not appropriate the culture of ethnic and racial minorities.”
The exchange came at the end of an otherwise amicable interview in which the Salon reporters were clearly trying to stir something up by insinuating he himself had ‘appropriated’ music from other cultures.
Hall immediately went on the defensive, asking if the reporter was trying to imply that he couldn’t play or enjoy certain kinds of music because it belonged to other cultures.
“Are you trying to say that I don’t own the style of music that I grew up with and sing?” Hall accused. “I grew up with this music. It is not about being black or white.”
He added, “That is the most naive attitude I’ve ever heard in my life.”
When the reporter tried to indicate that he agreed with Hall, the Hall of Fame musician responded “I’m glad that you do, because anyone who says that should shut the f*** up.”

In an interview with Salon, Hall was asked for his thoughts on “cultural appropriation” — the notion that “white people should not appropriate the culture of ethnic and racial minorities” — and he pulled no punches:
“Are you trying to say that I don’t own the style of music that I grew up with and sing? I grew up with this music. It is not about being black or white. That is the most naïve attitude I’ve ever heard in my life. That is so far in the past, I hope, for everyone’s sake. It isn’t even an issue to discuss. The music that you listened to when you grew up is your music. It has nothing to do with ‘cultural appropriation.’”
When the interviewer agreed, Hall dropped another bomb: ”I’m glad that you do, because anyone who says that should shut the f*** up.”
Trying to split people and music up into certain racial categories is wholly un-American, according to Hall.
“We live in America,” he explained. “That’s our entire culture. Our culture is a blend. It isn’t split up into groups. Anyone who says otherwise is a fool – worse than a fool – a dangerous fool.”
When the Salon reporter tried to explain that these ideas weren’t coming from them, but rather from ‘safe space’ loving academics, Hall hilariously responded, “Academia? Now, there’s a hotbed of idiocy.”
“They should go back to school,” he added.
