Concealed Carry And The Second Amendment Just Took A Huge Hit In This Swing State

Concealed Carry

The state of Virginia is drastically reducing the number of people who can legally carry a concealed firearm within its borders. Attorney General Mark R. Herring (D) announced that Virginia will no longer recognize carry permits from 25 other states.

According to a Washington Post report:

Under the policy, Virginians with a history of stalking, drug dealing or inpatient mental-health treatment cannot obtain a permit in a state with comparatively lax laws and carry a handgun legally at home.

“While you are here, you are subject to the commonwealth’s gun laws,” Herring said in a news conference. The change means Virginia’s standards for obtaining a concealed weapon are applied “evenly, consistently and fairly,” he said.

This change will mean millions of previously recognized permit holders will no longer be able to legally carry a gun in Virginia.

The move will also mean that Virginians will likely be able to carry in fewer states. This is because some states will only honor reciprocity with another state as long as the other state recognizes their permit.

Many people, including state Republicans are unhappy with the move. “Unfortunately, I have little doubt as to his true motivations,” Virginia House Speaker William J. Howell (R-Stafford) said. “Mark Herring consistently seeks to interpret and apply the law of the commonwealth through the lens of his own personal, political opinions. He is damaging the integrity of the office he holds.”

The AG’s argument is a Red Herring — concealed carry permit holders are not the threat. It’s those who possess guns illegally you have to worry about, and they aren’t going to follow a concealed carry law anyway.

For everyone else from other states who hold CCPs: avoid Virginia at all costs. Take your business elsewhere and make it known why you are avoiding VA. Avoid driving through the state if possible. If must drive through, fill up with gas before you reach our border and do not stop until you leave the state. Take your conventions elsewhere. Take your vacations in North Carolina or West Virginia. Our governor Terry McAuliffe is a political hack and sock puppet of Hillary. So is our Attorney General Mark “Red” Herring.
