Earlier this morning, we at The Political Insider reported that sources within the FBI believe that an indictment will be sought in the investigation into the Clinton Foundation.
Well, we are now learning from the Wall Street Journal that “secret recordings of a suspect talking about the Clinton Foundation fueled an internal battle between FBI agents who wanted to pursue the case and corruption prosecutors who viewed the statements as worthless hearsay.”
According to the report, based on evidence from informants and recordings, agents believed they had enough information to pursue an aggressive investigation into the foundation following revelations that surfaced in the 2015 book “Clinton Cash.”
The conflict between the FBI and public corruption prosecutors over the Clinton Foundation came to a head in February primarily due to the actions of U.S. attorney for Brooklyn Robert Capers who “some at the FBI came to view as exacerbating the problems by telling each side what it wanted to hear.”
The crux of the disagreement was whether or not the case was strong enough to seek an indictment, which focused on whether or not the Clinton Foundation received special treatment from Hillary Clinton’s State Department. Specifically “Senior officials in the Justice Department and the FBI didn’t think much of the evidence, while investigators believed they had promising leads their bosses wouldn’t let them pursue.”
Furthermore, the WSJ is reporting that many “have blamed the FBI’s No. 2 official, deputy director Andrew McCabe, claiming he sought to stop agents from pursuing the case this summer. His defenders deny that, and say it was the Justice Department that kept pushing back on the investigation.”
If an indictment into the Clinton Foundation does not occur, it is clear that politics will have played a major role. Obama’s Department of Justice cannot be trusted to impartially investigate this case, as they are in the tank for Team Clinton.
