Carson Accepts Cruz’s Apology For His Campaign’s Actions, But He Wants More And He’s Right!

It has to be one of the biggest surprises of the Iowa Caucuses and it’s not going away anytime soon.

Dr. Ben Carson decided he was going to take some time away from the campaign and skip New Hampshire and South Carolina. Senator Ted Cruz’s supporters heard this and decided they would text each other how the doctor is ‘dropping out’ of the race.

Cruz apologized on Tuesday for the mistake:

“Last night when our political team saw the CNN post saying that Dr. Carson was not carrying on to New Hampshire and South Carolina, our campaign updated grassroots leaders just as we would with any breaking news story,” Cruz said in a statement first shared with CNN. “That’s fair game. What the team then should have done was send around the follow-up statement from the Carson campaign clarifying that he was indeed staying in the race when that came out.”

Carson fired back via Newsmax:

Well, you know, as a Christian, I will accept an apology. But it doesn’t correct the problem,” Carson said on CNN’s “The Lead with Jake Tapper.” “You know, this is a cultural issue when people in your campaign feel that it’s OK to distort the issues to their political advantage and to tell absolute lies.”

Carson questioned whether anyone will face consequences or if there will only be a slap on the wrist.

“If we don’t assign responsibility and consequences, what keeps this from continuing to happen?” he said.

Tapper asked Carson whether someone from the Cruz campaign should be fired or if King should resign as co-chairman.

“I think whoever is responsible for blatant lying should be dismissed, absolutely,” Carson said, “unless, unless that kind of behavior is acceptable in your campaign culture.”

In the caucus meetings, Cruz supporters told Carson supporters their candidate was dropping out of the race and they should join them. That is a complete tragedy when it would have been easy to get the story confirmed from Carson’s campaign manager, but that wasn’t done.

Listen, this is a political game that has happened before and I am sure the Cruz campaign thought it would take full advantage of the situation but it doesn’t make it right. It gave Cruz a boost and took away from Carson and in my opinion that’s cheating.
