Americans First Heard About D-Day And Did THIS Amazing Thing!

D-Day

Historical accounts of the D-Day invasion of Normandy show that Americans had a reaction to the news of a pivotal moment in World War II which would be difficult to imagine in the Obama era – they prayed.

Today marks the 72nd anniversary of the historical event, D-Day, in which 156,000 U.S., British and Canadian forces stormed five beaches along 50 miles of the Normandy region of France.

The loss of life was monumental – over 2,000 Americans lost their lives on Omaha Beach alone. But it was a necessary sacrifice, giving the Allies a remarkable strategic surprise over the Germans.

Americans honored the solemn and emotional news by shutting up shop and holding prayer services throughout the country.

ccording to news reports, individual testimony, and historical photographs, the first thing Americans did when they first heard the news of the D-Day invasion, was they prayed. Nationwide stores closed and regularly scheduled prayer services were held in major cities.

Keith Huxen, a senior director at the National World War II Museum explains:

“The reaction of many Americans, whenever they found out what was happening that day, was to attend religious services. Churches and synagogues were reportedly packed across the country.”

Many stores closed: for prayer.

And prayer services and intercession were scheduled every hour in major cities.

Imagine a similar war effort being undertaken in today’s America, changed markedly under President Obama. Leftists would be pouring into the streets, protesting our military men and women and denouncing anyone who would pray for them as being non-inclusive.

Imagine today’s mayor of New York City, Bill de Blasio, then read this message from Fiorello La Guardia, mayor at the time, who led New Yorkers in prayer at a D-Day rally in Madison Square Garden.

“We, the people of the City of New York, in meeting assembled, send forth our prayers to the Almighty God for the safety and spiritual welfare of every one of you and humbly petition Him to bring total victory to your arms in the great and valiant struggle for the liberation of the world from tyranny.”

Hard to even imagine those two people are from the same country, let alone mayor’s of the same city.

Americans of a bygone era, liberating France from the Nazis and praying for the safety of our military men and women. No wonder they’ve been referred to as the Greatest Generation.
