Jon McAchran might not have expected such a big response from his marriage proposal to his girlfriend.
But then, McAchran just happened to get down on bended knee at one of the world’s most most famous ice rinks – at the Eiffel Tower. Or rather, on the Eiffel Tower. The ice rink sits 187 feet above Paris, and makes for the perfect romantic setting.
He also received applause when other skaters saw what was happening, which naturally drew attention to the couple.
The thing that really brought attention however, was the fact that an AP reporter who happened to be photographing tourists managed to capture the moment.

It could have been a scene from fairytale movie “Frozen.”
And an AP photographer snapping tourists at the Eiffel Tower’s Christmas ice-rink Tuesday happened upon the fairytale moment.
Real estate agent Jon McAchran, 32, of Virginia Beach provoked instant applause when he got down on one frosty knee (and ice-skate) to pop the question on the ice to his girlfriend Ashley Marie Kimberl, 30, presenting her with a sparkling diamond engagement ring.
Kimberl confirmed her answer to the AP: “We’re getting married!”
As touching a moment as this was, it’s probably not the most famous proposal at the Eiffel Tower.
In 2005, Tom Cruise proposed to Katie Holmes atop the Eiffel Tower.
